Live and Let’s Fly Weekend Digest: January 14, 2017

Matthew January 14, 2017 Leave a Comment

Another week has flown by, but as I sit at my desk on this beautiful Saturday evening, I am thankful that the last several days have been very productive.

While managing Award Expert and this blog are critical, an even more important task is caring for my wife and child. The two go hand and hand, since we have to eat and pay the bills, but I truly am trying to keep my resolution and take extended breaks from my laptop and cell phone. This week was spent overseeing the installation of heating and air conditioning in our 90-year-old bungalow. No more huddling around space heaters or sweltering summer days, inside our house at least. But the noise, dust, and debris has been a distraction.

Tomorrow I will finish off (finally!) the Tanzania trip report with an updated review of the Park Hyatt Hamburg and final reflections on the trip. Next week we truly will return to the Africa trip report I paused two weeks ago…back to the story of how my wife and I finally made it from Germany to America.

I have a surprise trip planned at the end of the week that I will not say anything more about for now, other than that it could turn out to be a fascinating experience or a total disaster. In either case, I hope it will be entertaining to read about.

Looted But Not Livid in Zanzibar

A tale of being gullible in Zanzibar. Interesting how much this post seemed to stir up charges of “white privilege” and attacks against me.

The flights and hotels were great, but the afternoon spent walking through Stone Town in Zanzibar just made the trip 100% worth it.

Sadly, United will push up the retirement date of its 747-400s to 2017, a full year early. I am looking forward even more to my 747-400 flights on United this spring to Germany.
