Delta Adds New Flights to Europe from Los Angeles

Matthew September 23, 2017 1 Comment

Over the last few years we have seen an explosive growth of transatlantic travel from Los Angeles. That growth will continue next summer, courtesy of Delta. The carrier has announced new nonstop service to Amsterdam and Paris from Los Angeles.

Service to Paris CDG will begin on June 16, 2018 and be in cooperation with transatlantic joint-venture partner Air France. The flight will operate three times per week.

LAX – Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
Flight Number Departs Arrives Frequency
DL156 LAX at noon CDG at 7:55 a.m. (next day) Tue/Thurs/Sat
DL157 CDG  at 3:15 p.m. LAX at 6:25 p.m. Wed/Fri/Sun

Amsterdam service will also begin on June 16, 2018 and operate four times weekly. This service will complement KLM’s daily afternoon 747-400 flight, also a JV partner of Delta.

LAX – Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS)
Flight Number Departs Arrives Frequency
DL78 LAX at noon AMS at 7:55 a.m. (next day) Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun
DL79 AMS  at 3:35 p.m. LAX at 6:25 p.m.  Mon/Tue/Thur/Sat

Delta will use a Boeing 777-200LR for both flights. Service will be year-around.

New Destination: Ponta Delgada-Azores

Delta also announced new service to Ponta Delgada, in the Azores (Portugal). This service will be seasonal and begin on March 24, 2018.

JFK – Azores (PDL)
Flight Number Departs Arrives Frequency
DL417 JFK at 8:30 p.m. PDL at 7:30 a.m. (next day) excluding Mon/Wed
DL217 PDL  at 9:15 a.m. JFK at 10:30 a.m. excluding Tue/Thurs

Delta becomes the first U.S. carrier to serve the Azores (since the Pan Am days).

Lisbon and Lagos Upgrades

Next summer, Delta will also offer daily service between Atlanta and Lisbon on a 767. New York to Lagos will become year around (three times weekly). The full schedules are available here. I also wrote previously about the new Indianapolis to Paris service.

CONCLUSION

American, Delta, and United have all now announced their summer season expansion for next year. In terms of Delta, I am excited about having two new transatlantic options from Los Angeles.

I believe the first U.S. carrier to fly to the Azores was Pan Am.
