Our subject today is Joanne Wickenden, who seems to have a hard time holding down a job as a flight attendant.
The 23-year-old was fired by Norwegian Air after only three months on the job…for spitting in a passenger’s coffee. The passengers allegedly “said something she didn’t like” on a longhaul flight from Gatwick.
She had previously worked at EasyJet and British Airways and found a way to return to BA. But her second stint at BA did not last. She was fired this week after making “racist” remarks in a Snapchat video while in uniform.
Wickenden had sparked outrage in the short video clip where she made sexual remarks about Nigerian men and the size of their private parts while also mocking their accents.
During the one-minute clip she spoke of how how she was going to deal with passengers on the flight.
Here’s the video:
I’m not sure “racist” is the right word to describe the videos, but they are certainly in incredibly poor taste…especially while wearing her BA uniform. And note that “BBC” here does not mean the British Broadcasting Company…
I Resigned. I Wasn’t Fired!
Wickenden claims she was not fired, she quit…both jobs.
I’d had enough and I didn’t want to fly anymore.
She also claims her colleagues set her up, egging her on to make the video above then secretly saving it and “turning her in” to BA.
If that’s the case, that’s pretty sad…as is caving to peer pressure.
Here’s the moral of the story: watch what you say on social media and never make questionable remarks wearing company clothing. The tragedy is not that she got caught having a good laugh, that she lacked the discernment to see the ramifications of her actions. Then again, we’re probably all guilty of that from time to time.
