The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge in Terminal 2 at Singapore’s Changi International Airport offers Star Alliance Gold passengers traveling in economy class access to free food, drink, and wi-fi. But it’s not a great lounge.
Although Singapore Airlines has a beautiful lounge next door for Star Alliance business class passengers, economy class passengers do not have access. Instead, they have access to the Gold Lounge, which is just a skeleton of the full-service lounge.
There is food…a few hot selections, a few cold selections, plus alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. There is also ample seating, though the lounge can get crowded.
But there are no bathrooms or showers in the lounge and that just strikes me as cheap. If you need to use the restroom, you must exit the lounge and use the public facilities in the terminal. If you want a shower, you are out of luck unless you pay to access the transit hotel or another lounge.
I was flying in business class and the agent who checked me in never advised me that a few hundred feet a much better lounge was waiting. Good thing I knew!
I understand why crowding concerns have prompted Singapore to create separate Star Gold lounges. Still, it is a disappointing lounge without restrooms and a much more limited food selection than the KrisFlyer Lounge. This is the sort of lounge that is fine for a layover but not something you should arrive early for.
