The 2018 Winter Olympic Games are coming up in PyeongChang, South Korea. U.S. athletes will be traveling there on United Airlines, the subject of a new 30-second TV advertising spot.
The video’s slogan: Helping superheroes fly for 38 years. Proud to fly Team USA.
I like it a lot…turning athletes and United employees into superheroes works very well in this ad. The ad includes the following U.S. olympic athletes:
- Jamie Anderson
- J.R. Celski
- Nathan Chen
- Erin Hamlin
- Gus Kenworthy
- Nikko Landeros
The commercial contains a fairly catchy original score, which United has also produced a short film on:
Now that I’ve played the commercial a couple times, the song is stuck in my head. It’s familiar in a way I cannot place, yet unique score by composer Brian Tyler.
I’m sure it wasn’t cheap to make this commercial and United has also produced a behind-the-scenes video charting the ad’s genesis and how some of the special effects were created:
United Airlines has supported the U.S. olympic team for 38 years. I suspect it is a lucrative sponsorship because these olympic and paralympic athletes for Team USA will represent United in the 2018 games .
These athletes embody United’s core values of flying together and working as one unified team towards success. They are role models both in and out of competition, and will represent United throughout the PyeongChang Games, and appear in a United U.S. Olympic-themed advertising campaign that will launch in January.
