While Qatar Airways has eliminated à la carte dining in the main dining room of the Al Mourjan Lounge in Doha, sandwiches are still available for order in the patisserie in the lounge.
I love sandwiches. Love them. I think sandwiches are the greatest culinary invention in the history of the world. So when a lounge offers freshly-prepared sandwiches and paninis, I will usually indulge.
When I visit the Al Mourjan lounge in DOH I don’t even bother going upstairs to the restaurant…I head straight to the deli.
The sandwich menu changes from time to time, but it usually looks like this–
Each of my last three visits I have tried a different sandwich. One was much better than the other two.
Sandwich #1: Cajun spiced chicken in ciabatta
Horrible. The chicken was so dry I only ate half the sandwich. I could not taste the cajun spice or the sun-dried tomatoes in the mayonnaise.
Sandwich #2: Caprese sandwich
Cold. The cheese, bread, and tomatoes were all cold. Like the cajun sandwich, the basil mayonnaise had no hint of basil.
Sandwich #3: Deli lamb
Winner. Served perfectly warm and the lamb meat was brimming with flavor. This sandwich is a winner.
I’ve found a winner and I’m going to stick to it: the deli lamb sandwich.
