I shared about my recent flight delay on Lufthansa. Here’s a look at two domestic flights I took within Germany from Frankfurt to Munich and shortly thereafter, back to Frankfurt.
With an onward connection to Los Angeles in first class for John (business class for me), we spent a couple hours in the fabulous First Class Terminal prior to the flight.
You can read all the details about the flight delay here. I’m going to move directly to the flights.
Our Frankfurt to Munich flight was delayed to a late-arriving crew from Berlin. We were driven to the plane in a Mercedes van toward the end of the boarding process.
Upon boarding, we found the flight was full. The captain announced a further delay and we knew right then it would be a photo finish in Munich. The captain hoped to make up time in the air, promising 35-mintues of flying time.
A full lunch was served after takeoff, including chicken liver pate with orange sauce and cole slaw, potato salad with mini shrimp and chives, cheese with preserves, and a tapioca cream dessert. Hot bread was also offered.

This flight did not feature wi-fi onboard. With a variable business class cabin on Lufthansa, there appeared to be about 10 rows of business class on this flight. The lavatory was clean but featured no extra amenities.
Unlike in the USA, there was no “if your travel is terminating in Munich, please remain seated to help those with tight connections to make them” announcement…not that anyone follows them in the USA. It would not have made a difference for us. We were first off the plane and still missed our flight.
Considering all the flight rebooking options presented, we opted to return to Frankfurt and fly nonstop to LA the following morning. But not before lunch in the First Class Lounge…
The Flight Back
After spending about 90 minutes in the First Class Lounge, it was back to Frankfurt for us. Another A321, with a different crew. The meal was absolutely identical to Frankfurt to Munich. After a beautiful steak in the first class lounge, I skipped the meal. Multiple drink refills were offered and one FA also offered pillows and blankets to business class passengers.
Unlike the Frankfurt to Munich flight, this flight was less than half full. I ordered a coffee, which tragically was powdered. The crew was charming.
No delays coming back and we made it on time.
Lufthansa domestic flights in business class are rather boring. There’s nothing wrong with that. Expect a hearty meal and good service but an uncomfortable seat (economy seat with a blocked middle). We ended up flying to Munich for lunch…I can think of worse things!
