Ok, I just could not resist that title. Forgive me for this whole post.
As airlines across the nation seek to virtue signal their support for LGBTQ+ rights during Pride Month, United Airlines is teaming up with OTG, the food operator in Newark Airport, to offer its first-annual drag brunch.
This charity event will take place on Thursday, June 20th at Novella, an Italian restaurant in Terminal C. The event will be hosted by Harmonica Sunbeam and deejayed by Steve Sidewalk (should I know them?). All proceeds will go toward the Trevor Project, which offers counseling and suicide-prevention services to youth. OTG has promised it will donate at least $10,000 to the non-profit group.
The auction is already closed, but United offered MileagePlus members the ability to bid for the event, which includes:
- Two tickets including:
- All-you-can-eat breakfast and fresh-baked pastries from Mélange Bakery
- Open bar including mixed cocktails and mocktails
- Performances by Jahlissa A. Ross, Pattaya Hart, Fifi Dubois, Caracol Richards, Daesha Richards, and Kennedy Davenport from RuPaul’s Drag Race
Now I have to admit, Ben (Lucky) once sat me down and made me watch Ru Paul’s Drag Race. It was a Snatch Game episode, which brought back memories of watching Match Game reruns on Game Show Network as a kid. It was hilarious, though I’m sure some of the humor went straight over my head…but it wasn’t my first time watching drag. Who can forget Flip Wilson as Geraldine? Or even the Three Stooges dressing up as women?
Anyway, that’s not my burning question.
My burning question is whether Dr. David Dao will be invited?
The doctor was dragged off a United flight in 2017 and settled for big bucks with United. He’s back in the spotlight now that his non-disclosure agreement has expired.
Can you imagine United offering him a VIP table at this event? I’m thinking it would make for a hilarious and perhaps even helpful PR stunt…
Will Dr. Dao be given a front-r0w seat to this event, will he have to be dragged in, or should he just sashay away?
